Abstract: Fresh water mussels (Batissa violacea) commonly known as kai is a very important inland aquatic resource found in our major river systems.In Vitilevu, Rewa , Ba and Sigatoka rivers harbours the major mussel beds and supplies the greater portion of the kai consumed in Viti Levu.
